Alkitab dan Weight-Loss Program

Sebuah artikel menarik dari Washington Post, yg muncul di The Age Online.

Berikut cuplikan artikel tersebut. Komentar singkat saya ada dibawah.
A YEAR ago Baptist minister Steve Reynolds told his Virginia congregation they were praying too much at the altar of fatty foods and put them on a diet. About 250 people, most of them members of Mr Reynolds' Capital Baptist Church, joined his Bod4God weight-loss program that combined Christian principles with a low-fat diet and exercise. They lost 952 kilograms in about 12 months.

"It was wonderful," said Diane Cornell, a homemaker from Falls Church, Virginia, who shed 21 kilograms. "It was like you got your life right with God and the weight just came off."

The program has been so successful that Mr Reynolds is launching the 2008 version of Bod4God with a luncheon on January 19 at the church. As many as 300 people are expected to enrol for the first of three sessions this year.

They also study the Bible, focusing on verses that appear to apply to issues of health and body image, such as Romans 12:1-2 — "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service."

- Ethical Tobacco Company Executive: "Smoking is Dangerous to Your Lung, Remember Romans 12:1-2"
- Alcoholic Anonymous Group Leader: "Alcohol ruins your lever. Let us recite again Romans 12:1-2"
- Vegetarian Advocate: "No meat, no fat, no bbq pork; they damage your heart. Romans 12:1-2 rules against it"
- Dermatologist: "No exposure to UV index, it will grow cancerous cell in your body. Reason: Romans 12:1-2"
- Water Saver Ad: "Four-minute once-a-day shower is best to avoid dry skin. It's biblical. See Romans 12:1-2"
- Yoga Teacher: "Christian Yoga is good for your body health. I am supported by the bible Romans 12:1-2"
- Retail Therapist: "Going shopping twice a week rejuvenates your soul and body. Romans 12:1-2 supports that"
- Greenist: "Leave your car. Walk, jog, run to and from work. It's good for your body. Ref: Romans 12:1-2"
- Milk Enthusiast: "Romans 12:1-2 says body is important to God. Drink Milk. It does your body good"
- Shiatsu Massage Specialist: "We fix your tense muscle in no time. Romans 12:1-2 said, Relax your muscle"
- Etc...
